Living the dream here people, when you choose our hybrid offroad caravan hire Cairns for your next trip. This one was bought brand new in 2023 and is in immaculate condition. On the inside you’ll find a super comfortable king-sized bed, bunk beds, internal lounge, kitchen, air conditioning, fans and an ensuite, with shower and toilet. Step outside and enjoy the views, while being shaded by the automatic awning. There’s a slide out gas burner kitchen for outdoor cooking, or you can fire up our Baby Weber Q. Other inclusions are a large fridge / freezer, outdoor camping mat and chairs, cutlery, plates, bowls and cups. Easy 10 minute setup. See our Caravan Hire Cairns listing on Camplify for easy rental terms and the peace of mind that your insurances and roadside assistance are all included.
Camping just got a whole lot better! Our caravan hire Cairns comes packed with everything needed for a fabulous outdoor adventure, you just need to BYO clothes, food and drinks. Our hybrid offroad caravan is stable on the road, but you will need a 4WD to tow it. Alternatively, we can drop it off to where you want to be (within a 200km radius of Cairns) and set it up for you. It is family and pet friendly – our border collies loves going camping with us – and is ready to roll.
There’s lots to love about our caravan. Let’s start with the inside, which is well laid out to maximise space. There’s a king-sized bed and bunk beds, the bottom of which is a king-single and the top one is a single. All the beds have fans, and the air conditioner cools the entire van (you need to be at a powered site to run the air conditioning). There are storage cupboards, an internal kitchen and ensuite and all of the windows have insect screens, as well as privacy screens. Outside there’s a slide out fridge / freezer, kitchen with sink and more storage drawers. The awning is electric and the whole setup takes around 10 minutes.
The first thing you need to know is that our caravan weighs around 2,500kg, so your 4WD must have a minimum braked towing capacity of 2,800kg. If your vehicle doesn’t meet these requirements, it wouldn’t be safe or legal to tow our caravan hire Cairns. Secondly, the practicalities of towing. Ideally, you will have prior towing experience and your 4WD will have an advanced electronic brake system, like the REDARC Tow-Pro Elite. If it doesn’t have this, we can provide a portable brake controller that operates via smartphone, making it easier for you to manage. While the caravan is stable on the roads, towing this one isn’t recommended for a first timer. In this instance, we’re happy to deliver the caravan to your destination for your convenience. See below for more info.
If you do not have any towing experience and/or a suitable 4WD, no problem you can still take advantage of our caravan hire Cairns with our delivery service. We deliver directly to places within a 200km radius of Cairns, which includes the always popular BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut Resort, Ellis Beach, Granite Gorge and the Mareeba Showgrounds for Savannah in the Round. Delivery is an additional cost to the caravan hire and it includes the setup, so all you need to do is roll up and settle in. If you’re staying at a caravan park, book a powered site to ensure you can use the air conditioning.
Our caravan is suitable for families and couples, or individuals who want a little more space. The lower bunk is a king-single, and the upper is a single, making it ideal for children and manageable for teens. Our son is 11 years old and he and his mates fit comfortably in the bunks. Couples and solo travellers find the extra space (the bunks) useful for storing belongings. The caravan’s setup process is straightforward, though it does require a little strength to lift the pop-top. If you have a larger family and/or older children, you can always bring a swag for them.
Let’s go camping! There are so many excellent places to stay around Cairns and the region, including Ellis Beach, Mission Beach, Cooktown and Chillagoe. Being an offroad caravan, this one is capable and ready for most Far North Queensland adventures, including the amazing Undara Experience, Cobbold Gorge (pictured) and Elim Beach. Please note our caravan was bought brand new in 2023 and while it has offroad capabilities, we will not accept enquiries or bookings for anyone wanting to take it up to Cape York Peninsula. However, we also have a brand new Cairns camper trailer to hire and this one can go to the Cape.
We get the most enquiries for our caravan hire Cairns between April and November, for anyone that lives up here, that will come as no surprise thanks to the cooler weather. However, the Christmas period and all school holidays are also popular, so it’s wise to book early for these times and for any festivals and events. Whether you’re planning on powered or unpowered sites, our caravan hire Cairns is equipped to handle both and we have done both. Your dog is welcome to go camping with you, obviously we would ask that you ensure they do not damage the caravan and are not left alone inside it.
That pretty much sums up the key information regarding our caravan hire Cairns. We are happy to take enquiries and answer any queries you might have. All bookings are put through the Camplify platform for your peace of mind and ours. Why? When you book through Camplify the insurance is all taken care of and they also provide roadside assistance, so it’s a bit of a no brainer really. The gallery below shows some more shots of the van, and continue on for the specs, prices and inclusions.

Enjoy outdoor adventures without sacrificing comfort in our caravan, and become a true Tropical Trailblazer. We’ve tackled adventures from caving in Chillagoe to climbing the colored sands at Elim Beach, both of which are highly recommended. Whether it’s a long weekend at Lake Tinaroo, exploring the hills of Herberton and Ravenshoe, hanging out at Granite Gorge, or soaking in the thermal pools at Talaroo or Innot Hot Springs, our caravan has been there. So if you’re ready for an adventure, check out our listing on Camplify or contact us directly at richard@tropicaltrailblazers.com.au
Far North Queensland boasts a plethora of caravan parks. Notably, BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut Resort and BIG4 Port Douglas Glengarry Holiday Park offer extensive kid-friendly activities including water parks and jumping pillows. For those preferring beachfront or leafy settings, our top picks are Palm Cove (pictured) and Ellis Beach. Booking an absolute beachfront site at Ellis Beach lets you wake up to soothing ocean sounds. Alternatively, for a serene, green environment, Cool Waters Caravan Park and Cairns Crystal Cascades Holiday Park are excellent choices.
Lake Tinaroo is a local favorite for activities like fishing, sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, and has lots of campsites around its perimeter. There are also the crater lakes, one of our favourites is Lake Eacham (pictured). For those interested in a bit more of a land-based adventure, the Granite Gorge Caravan Park and Davies Creek National Park offer great experiences.
The Cassowary Coast has lots of fabulous camping grounds and sites. If you are hoping to spot a cassowary in the wild, then check into Etty Bay. Southern cassowaries are frequently seen here, walking on the beach and also around the campground and caravan park. A little further south is Mission Beach (pictured), which offers a laid-back vibe and provides both beachfront and rainforest camping.
Innot Hot Springs (pictured) offers easy access to thermal springs just over a two-hour drive from Cairns. The caravan park there is pet-friendly but restricts pets in communal areas. Talaroo Hot Springs, slightly further away, offers a unique cultural and natural experience, accessible only through paid tours. It’s pet-friendly, but pets are not allowed on the tours or communal facilities. Both locations provide a distinct way to experience the restorative powers of natural thermal waters.
Chillagoe is a fantastic spot for caravan camping, with two main places to park up. Our favourite is the Chillagoe Observatory and Eco Lodge, which is set back from the road and as its name suggests, has a nighttime observatory tour (weather permitting). There’s lots to do in Chillagoe, which is famous for its limestone caves and balancing rocks. There is also Aboriginal Rock Art and an amazing outback landscape, dominated by the towering limestone karsts. Chillagoe is a 2.5 hour drive from Cairns.
Cobbold Gorge is another outback gem in the Gulf Savannah. The gorge itself is only accessible on tour, and the tours are amazing. You can take a guided walk with boat ride through the gorge, then walk over the glass bridge. Choose a stand-up paddleboarding tour and for the ultimate, a scenic helicopter flight. Cobbold Village has powered and unpowered sites, as well as ensuite sites. The Village has an awesome infinity pool, licensed bar and bistro, lagoon with kayaks and walking tracks. In short, there’s lots of things to do at Cobbold Gorge, which is around a 6 hour drive from Cairns.
From Cairns, the Dinosaur Trail takes you deep into outback Queensland and includes stops at Hughenden, Winton and Richmond. The highlight is definitely the Age of Dinosaurs at Winton and Lark Quarry, which is a 1 hour driver from Winton. Highly recommend both of these and make sure you pre-book to avoid disappointment. Hughenden has Porcupine Gorge while Richmond is home to Kronosaurus Corner which is home to the largest collection of Australian marine dinosaurs. Allow at least a week for this trip and prepare to be impressed.
Elim Beach is around 1.5 hours north of Cooktown and is a stunning setting, similar to a mini-Fraser Island, and perfect for 4WD enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The campground here is called Eddies and it’s all unpowered camping, so definitely go in winter. The coloured sands is around a 15-20 minute beach drive from the campground and access is tide dependent. The coloured sand gorge is beautiful and you can walk up and explore it. Cape Bedford is on the other side of the headland and provides the opportunity for more beach driving.
Whether you’re into stargazing, enjoying campfires, or just relaxing by the water, our caravan is ready to provide a comfortable base for your explorations. If this aligns with your idea of a great time, then our Tanami offroad hybrid caravan is all set for your next great Tropical Trailblazer adventure.
